1. The Wedding

ना रस्ता मालूम ना तेरा नाम पता मालूम

कैसे मेरे प्यार ने तुझको ढूँढा क्या मालूम

सीधी तेरे पास

मैं अँखियाँ मीचे-मीचे आ गयी..

Author's POV.

"Trust me babuji, the man is good."

She was hearing faded noise from her parents' room where her brother and her parents were sitting and discussing about her marriage.

Her marriage.

She knew it was going to happen so as she had attained the age of 18, two years ago itself. Her family was being slightly grateful to her because they wanted a good suitor for her, this was the only reason she was still unmarried.

All her friends, were married off at the age of 17 or 18.

And she was 20.

The only desire she had was to marry off a good man, who'll take care of her, like his brother takes care of his wife, her bhabhi.

There chemistry is something else.

She had seen her brother many times around her bhabhi, acting differently, nice, loving, which she never saw between her mother and father.

Only thing she knew was, after marriage, her womb will be filled with a child, giving her a big baby bump.

" Ladka toh acha hai, humne bhi suna hai. Lekin maa-baap nahi hai uske shayad."

"The man is good, I've heard of him, but I think his mother and father are no more."

She heard her father's voice.

Her heart was beating fastly hearing about her future husband.

"He has a mother, she remains ill, as of I've heard. That's why they want to marry their son as soon as possible."

Her brother spoke.

"Tarapur village is also wealthy, infact the family is very wealthy too. Priya will be queen there, afterall she'll be the eldest daughter-in-law."

Her mother spoke in a low voice.

"Yes, babuji. We'll miss this great chance if we ignore this boy," her brother muttered again.

"Fine. Send the proposal to them. If they agree, we will marry off Priya within this week itself."

She quivered.

This week?

It was clearly very fast for her.

She knew that she'll not get to see her husband's face before their marriage.

She walked towards her room, thinking about how her husband would be like.

Will he love her?

Will he take care of her?

What would be his features be like?

Black hairs? Or brown?

Small eyes or big like her?

She laid down on the bed, thinking about her future life and soon drifted to her sleep.

"Get ready, people are coming to see you today," her brother ordered and she nodded her head.

"Bhavna," he called his wife's name loudly and she came running inside her room.

"Ji, kahiye."

"Get her ready. You know the reason right?".

Her bhabhi nodded her head and her brother left them alone.

***

Sitting in a pink saree, she was waiting to be called outside infront of the guests.

Her bhabhi had informed her that the groom's elder sister and her husband were coming to see her.

Her mother came inside and murmured,

"Touch their feet, behave nicely."

She nodded and they both went outside with small steps.

Her face was half covered by her pallu, and thus she only saw the feet of two people and their voice,

"Stay blessed."

The elders were talking while she was fidgeting her fingers.

After a few minutes, she felt someone standing before her.

The person pulled her veil slightly and she saw a beautiful faced woman, quite elder than her, standing infront of her with a smile.

"Hmm.. very beautiful."

She commented.

She placed the veil down again and sat beside her.

"So, do you know cooking?" The lady asked and she nodded her head.

"Very good, do you know sewing and all?", she asked her next question and I nodded my head again.

"Speak something atleast," she commented and Priya felt a little awkward.

"What all things you can prepare in food?", she asked.

Priya collected some courage and finally spoke in a low voice,

"Bohot kuch jaante hai hum... Sabjiyaan banana,.. mithaiya banana..".

The lady commented again,

"Your voice is sweet."

Priya smiled inside her veil.

She stood up from beside her and sat beside her husband.

Her husband looked in her eyes and she spoke,

"Humare Bhai ne toh kaha tha, jo didi aur jijaji pasand kare, Hume toh pasand hai ladki, humare taraf se Haan hai."

Priya heard her father's voice,

"Congratulations, congratulations. Ahilya, bring the sweets."

Priya felt something heavy in her heart. Her destiny had just now been written.

She felt the same lady coming infront of her and forwarding the sweet towards her mouth.

She took a small bite and the lady hugged her slightly.

As decided, her wedding was to be held today. Within a week- demand from groom's side.

Sitting beside an unknown man, in a red silk saree, red bangles and red dupatta. Her hands and legs painted in red.

She was feeling goosebumps on her body.

"The bride's parents' will do kanyadaan now," the priest announced.

As soon as she felt her hands touching with her to-be-husband, she felt her heartbeat rising.

She gulped, but remained still, not trying to show emotions.

Whereas, Abhigyan, he was feeling irritated because of these multiple rituals taking place within such short interval of time.

He just wanted to end this up soon.

He accepted this marriage proposal because of his Didi's and maa's will. For him, his sister's and mother's decision was the ending line for him.

The entire wedding was very difficult for her, as she was feeling heavy because of the heavy saree, gold jewellery and full hands bangles. Her long veil especially.

Sindoor Dan was performed, in which her veil was once lifted up but the only thing she saw was, her husband's feet.

Finally, the two were announced as husband and wife.
